School history: The first Sam Houston High School opened in September 1923 in the former Milam Elementary school building at Mason and Hackberry. The second Sam Houston High School originally opened in 1942 at 463 Holmgreen (now Carroll Academy) in a building financed by WPA funds. Sam Houston was part of the W.W. White School District, which consolidated with SAISD in 1950. Today's Sam Houston high school opened in 1960. Read more here.

SAISD alums, Montrice Shepard, Class of 1978 (Sam Houston HS) and James Howard, former SAISD Board Trustee - Class of 1969 (Wheatly HS) celebrate Mrs. Shepard's recent retirement of 30+ years with SAISD.
Sam Houston HS held a virtual dinner for the top 10, which was attended by local leaders including SAISD District 2 Trustee Alicia Perry, City of San Antonio District 2 City Councilwoman Jada Andrews-Sullivan, and State Representative for District 120 Barbara Hawkins.
